Explain how an understanding of Honey and Mumford’s styles could help you to maximise you own learning on the International Diploma course.
Introduction:
According to the honey and mumford’s theory, the learning styles can be manifested into four parts-Activist, Theorist, Pragmatist, Reflector.( Honey, P&M 1982). To some degree, I think I am the student who can be regarded as an activist.
Reasons for supporting my idea
I think activist is a crucial learning which can help me to broad my horizon. There is no doubt that I am the person who is full of passion. Early in my primary school, I kept strong interests in the Chemistry, I would prefer to make chemical experiment in my spare time which actually helps a lot in my later career. As the proverb goes, “genuine knowledge comes from practice.”( Mao Tse Tung 1945) In general, if someone is an Activist, it means that they would prefer to gain useful knowledge from the experience. Once they are involved in the tasks, they will try their best and devote themselves to the task all the time(Kolb D.A Rubin I.M & McIntyre J.M. 1979).
When I am in the International Diploma Program, I think I will be under much more pressure because there are so many daily tasks which I need to finish in time. It is undeniable that I have to learn how to make a choice. Not only does the time management skill attach great significance, but also the selective skill can be essential. We will be able to derive the characteristic of the activists that they will look for the next obsession when the enthusiasm for the activity or idea plummets, it is based on the information in Cyberphysics (2013)
The reflector learning style should never be neglected. It is very admitted that doing the primary research and practicing the analysing skill can be two fundamental skills for the first year student. When we are in the diploma course, we have to revise the questionnaire until there is no logic and grammar mistake. We should be really careful in order to cover all possible realms and make sure there will be no mistake in the data(Kolb D.A Rubin I.M & McIntyre J.M. 1979).
On the other aspects, theorists and pragmatists play the very important role in the learning model. Theorists like to find out the foundation of the substance. Finding the origins of the questions helps us to understand the conception better. When we are having some troubles learning Pragmatists are the people who want to try everything out in order to see whether it is workable. When we are in a team, Making useful suggestions can be imperative.(Scott K.nd)
