In this novel Francis feeling towards Larry in the present day is very unpleasant. Larry became a complete stranger to Francis. Now his mission is to kill Larry, his only focus is Larry LaSalle. We as a reader found out in the scene when Francis goes to St Jude’s Church and prays for everyone especially for Nicole and when it comes for him to pray for Larry he finds it hard because Larry is his only enemy and he hates so much that he wants to kill him. Then he remembered of what sister Gertrude taught him in the third grade Francis describes his feelings by saying that it was like what she said straight came from Jesus mouth “Pray for your enemies, for those who have done harm. It is easy to pray for those you love, she said but is counts more to pray for those who don’t love you that you don’t love”. As for now Francis is a complete outsider to Frenchtown because he hasn’t been there for a long time and he had returned from the war as a completely different person. He doesn’t look the same to Frenchtown after all he had injured himself by trying to suicide but he didn’t succeed in it. He is suffering physically and emotionally even though he don’t look like it “My Nostrils are like two small caves and they sometimes get blocked”.
