- INTRODUCTION
- Background
Students commonly use the text book as an aid in studying, but many students do not read the text book to the extent that they should. This lack of reading is a clear concern, and instructor must address it in order for students to maximize potential text book benefits. The text book is one of the crucial factors in determining the students’ success in the courses. Instructors or curriculum developers, therefore, should select this teaching material carefully. Understanding student perceptions of text books is a key first step, and yet not many researchers explore this issue – the connection between student text book preference and student learning. In this study, we want to examine how English for the Teacher of TESOL text book perceived by students and to send school a message about students’ perception of this text book.
- Problem statement
In PUC, some students find it difficult to apply the theory in the text book, “English for the Teacher of TESOL”, to the real teaching. And some other students also mentioned that this text book is not good enough to learn, in term of language use and activity in this text book are not interesting at all and also too easy, and it seems like this text book is not for senior or junior to study. Moreover, some professors have some difficulties in dealing with the text book. Professor Keo Onn, for instance, who has being taught this text book so far, has stated that “this text book is too American, so some practices or theories cannot be applied in Cambodian context. And this text book is a bit broad, it does not provide clear explanation in some parts.” Thus, he used other extra materials and discussion instead of using only this text book. Hence, both teacher and students keep complaining about the inconveniences of this text book.

- How do students perceive the general attributes of the text book?
- How do students perceive the learning content of the text book?
- What implication can be drawn for improvement of the text book?
- Research objectives
This research aims to achieve the following objectives:
- To explore students’ perception of the organization and content of the text book.
- To collect the students’ suggestions.
- To analyze those suggestions in order to improve the text book.
- To give school the notification about the text book issues.
- Scope of the study
This research focuses on the students’ perception on the organization and content of English for the Teacher of TESOL text book only, since these two aspects are the most important parts of a text book. Any other information will not be included.

- What is evaluation?
Banks (1977: 489-490) considers evaluation as a technical aspect of instruction and a part of the teaching/learning process that gives continuous feedback of data to keep the system in adjustment. Base on Nevo (1977: 127) states,'' Evaluation refers to the process of delineating, obtaining and providing information on the merit of goals, designs, implementation and outcomes of educational activities, and should help to improve educational activities, and should help to improve an educational product during the process of its development, and/or demonstrate the merit of the final product when its development is completed.''
