A New Product for Happiness and Its Marketing Strategy
Definition of Happiness
Happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being , a state of physical or psychological demands being satisfied. Happiness is a positive or pleasant emotion which one would like it to last for a long time because of the contentment and intense joy in life. It may comes in different ways such as feeling comfortable, gaining inner peace, realization of self value or just being away from suffering.
Dr. Martin Seligman, one of the founders of positive psychology, uses happiness and well-being interchangeably. His definition of happiness is: both positive feelings (such as ecstasy and comfort) and positive activities that have no feeling component at all (such as absorption and engagement). In his happy life formula, Dr. Seligman defines a happy life as a life filled with positive feelings and activities. He says the degree to which you experience these feelings most of the time is your level of enduring happiness. (Popova 2012)
Different people define happiness in different ways, another positive psychologist, Dr. Barbara Fredrickson, defines happiness as, the fuel to thrive and to flourish, and to leave this world in better shape than you found it. Like Dr. Seligman, she believes that happiness includes activities that are absorbing and engaging. She goes on to say, you tap into it whenever you feel energized and excited by new ideas. You tap into it whenever you feel at one with your surroundings, at peace. You tap into it whenever you feel playful, creative, or silly. You tap into it whenever you feel your soul stirred by the sheer beauty of existence. You tap into it whenever you feel connected to others and loved. In short, you tap into it whenever positive emotions resonate within you.
To conclude a common answer to the question of what is happiness and how could one feel happy by using certain kind of product, I designed an interview about what kind of products or services in your opinion will bring you happiness? Different people gave me different responses: “I want the products of low price.”, “the products or services that help me improve my life”, “The products for the right time, like that I buy burgers when I am hungry, that makes me happy.”, “the product surprises me.” …
As I received these responses, I concluded that the products or services which provide happiness are those meet the demands of the customer well at a right time in the right way.
Product Introduction
The product I designed is a new style of men’s boots of Timberland, named Spacewalk, which are totally different from the old ones, more comfortable and functional while the appearance of the boots may still stay the same way.
