GENERAL
The WORK to be performed under this CONTRACT is generally outlined in this section, however; references shall be made to other parts of the CONTRACT, specifically SPECIFICATIONS, DRAWINGS, GENERAL CONDITIONS, SPECIAL CONDITIONS and COMPENSATION PROVISIONS for additional details.
ABC Company (ABC) is (insert type of activity - e.g. constructing, building, assembling etc.) a (high level description of the project e.g. substation) at (location).
OVERVIEW
This CONTRACT is for the CONTRACTOR to supply all material, resources and services to construct the concrete foundations, equipment bases, floor slabs, miscellaneous foundations, and bollards as detailed on the engineering drawings for the ABC CTG Project. CONTRACTOR shall also supply but not limited to project management, scheduling, procurement, subcontracting, materials handling, safety supervision, quality assurance/control and supervision required to complete their scope of the WORK.
2.2 CONTRACTOR shall work with ABC’s Construction Management Team (CMT) to coordinate their activities and the activities of the other contractors. CONTRACTOR will provide proper planning and shift look-a-head schedules to allow ABC CMT to mitigate areas of concern between contractors.
SCOPE OF WORK
Mobilize to site all manpower, subcontractors, material, equipment, tools and construction aids necessary to complete the WORK.
CONTRACTOR shall provide any and all transportation for their work force from contractor’s home office, place of residence or pick up points to the Project site and back on all rotational travel as required.
CONTRACTOR shall perform all work in accordance with ABC /XYZ specifications listed in section 14.0 Attachments and shall adhere to the industrial standards cited within.
CONTRACTOR shall supply all construction materials required to construct the foundations from the detailed engineering drawings including formwork, insulation, void form, reinforcing steel, embedded steel, anchor bolts, floor slabs including any finish coatings, bollards, door aprons and splash pads.
CONTRACTOR will supply, place and finish all concrete necessary to construct foundations, slabs, miscellaneous foundations, aprons and splash pads.
CONTRACTOR is responsible for the placement and finishing of gravel fill necessary for foundation work, however ABC will supply the gravel fill from a pre-approved source.
CONTRACTOR shall make their own arrangements for the supply of concrete. All concrete shall meet or exceed the quality of concrete required by the specifications. Transportation of concrete to the work site is the responsibility of the CONTRACTOR, including any concrete pumping required. CONTRACTOR shall insure their concrete supplier can meet the volume requirements for the various pours on a continuous pour basis.
CONTRACTOR is responsible for coordinating the layout, monitoring, and direction of excavation work required for foundations. The excavation equipment and equipment operators will be supplied by CONTRACTOR.
ABC will designate various lay down areas available to the CONTRACTOR. CONTRACTOR is responsible to providing racks/structure required to store reinforcement materials. Mill test reports (MTRs) for reinforcement materials shall be made available to ABC upon request, and shall be included in the QA documentation.
CONTRACTOR shall keep clean and accessible all work and storage areas in a safe organized manner.
CONTRACTOR may need to provide any temporary heating and hording as required due to cold temperatures, including any night safety watch as required.
CONTRACTOR is responsible for producing concrete cylinders and soil samples with full traceability to the location and batch as required by the ABC /XYZ specifications listed in section 16.0. Testing of the concrete cylinders and soil samples will be performed by a 3rd party appointed by CONTRACTOR.
CONTRACTOR will provide ABC with the necessary QA documentation and receive approval prior to concrete placement. Such reports shall include but are not limited to the concrete pour check report, rebar placement and verification report, and anchor bolt verification. Complete QA documentation shall conform to the requirements of the ABC /XYZ specifications listed in section 14.0.
CONTRACTOR shall provide the necessary survey quality check services to ensure proper placement of foundations and anchor bolts required for foundations in accordance with the detailed drawings.
The WORK not expressly called for in this CONTRACT, but necessary for the complete and proper construction, other than those items specifically identified as “ABC Supplied Resources”, shall be supplied by the CONTRACTOR.
Provide access /invites to meetings (Safety, Inspection, Quality, Toolbox, etc.).
ABC FURNISHED MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
ABC will supply onsite shared lunchroom trailer(s), washroom facilities, orientation trailer and medical facilities for the contractor’s work force.
ABC will supply all natural gas fuel through Owner free issue to CONTRACTOR.
ABC will supply all scaffolding through their preferred vendor free issue to CONTRACTOR. This includes the supply of all materials, erection and dismantling. CONTRACTOR will coordinate with the scaffolding contractor and ABC’s CMT all scaffolding requirements. Scaffolding will not be supplied and/or erected for hoarding purposes.
Water for on site compaction purposes will be provided by ABC.
ABC shall provide construction power in the work areas. Power for Contractors trailers/offices located in the centralized designated area will be provided by ABC. In the event Contractor chooses to locate Trailers in areas other than in the ABC appointed designated area, then power and operating costs of trailers will be to the CONTRACTOR’s account.
CONTRACTOR’S TEMPORARY FACILITIES
CONTRACTOR shall supply their own office trailers, tool cribs, equipment maintenance shelter and any other structures CONTRACTOR deems necessary. See attached Construction Services Matrix for a detailed description of ABC and CONTRACTOR responsibilities.
CONTRACTOR upon award of contract will provide ABC a list of trailers and equipment they plan on having at site. ABC will insure adequate space is available based on this information, as well as lay down areas for material and equipment.
All trailers and equipment will be in good working condition and suitable for the intended use. All inspection reports and certifications required by government agencies and ABC requirements will be made available to ABC, prior to equipment arriving at site. Failure to comply will result in trailers and equipment being turned away at the site gate and all costs will be the CONTRACTOR’s responsibility. Should the certification be scheduled to expire during the term of this contract, the CONTRACTOR will arrange at no charge to ABC , for re-inspection during site scheduled days off as not to interfere with construction schedule, this as well for any servicing required as part of the CONTRACTOR’s preventative maintenance program.
CONTRACTOR will supply computers and software (compatible with ABC’s CMT) for their own use. ABC with Owner will supply, maintain and pay for a communication network to allow CONTRACTOR connection to the internet and phone service. CONTRACTOR is responsible for desk phones. It should be noted that cellular phone reception is poor in the mill area and typically they do not work. Site radios (two-way) for construction communication will be provided by CONTRACTOR, as required.
SCHEDULE
Normal work schedule is ten hours per day, ten days on with 4 days off. Shift starts on Tuesday and ends on the second Thursday.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY
- Owner has undertaken PRIME CONTRACTOR responsibilities and functions as defined by the Alberta OH&S Act, Regulation and Code, including but not limited to, coordination with provincial authorities, site wide safety orientations for all workers, general safety meetings, operation of the Worksite Safety Committee, inspections and recording, investigations, review of hazard analyses, program approvals and adherence to programs, record keeping, and system audits, all for Owner, contractors, and all other subcontractors and workers at the site.
- CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for developing, implementing and having in place an EHS Management Plan. ABC will review the plan to insure it meets all of ABC ’s requirements and policies. ABC will audit CONTRACTOR to insure compliance.
- CONTRACTOR will report any and all incidents to ABC’s on site EHS Representatives within 24 hours.
- CONTRACTOR will record and report all EHS data as it pertains to their workforce (ABC’s reporting format is attached). This will be forwarded to ABC’s EHS Representatives on site at the end of every shift.
- All CONTRACTOR personnel will attend a project specific site orientation conducted by ABC, prior to commencing any work. CONTRACTOR will provide evidence that all their personnel have also completed their own company specific orientation, prior to the start of any work.
- CONTRACTOR will hold daily tool box safety talks and job hazard assessments. CONTRACTOR will attend and participate in the general site safety meeting held each shift.
- All construction personnel will wear the following PPE as a minimum:
- Hard Hats - CSA certified, both harness and hat in good condition
- Steel Toed Boots – CSA certified, must go above the ankle
- Safety Eye Glasses – CSA certified
- Respirators will be carried by all workers for use in emergency situations
- Gloves
- Long Sleeves, avoid wearing fusible garments
- High Visibility Reflective Garment
- Owner has a policy to limit the use of plastics at the mill. CONTRACTOR shall insure all their workers are aware of the policy (included in 14.0 Attachments) prior to their arrival at site and they abide by the policy at all times during the PROJECT.
- Owner will provide security at the site’s main entrance gate and general security of construction site. CONTRACTOR is responsible for security of their offices, equipment and materials.
- Owner will provide paramedic services 24/7 for the PROJECT, including emergency transportation.
QUALITY ASSURANCE AND CONTROL
CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for the developing, implementing and having in place a Quality Management Plan.
CONTRACTOR shall also be aware and be prepared to assist OWNER in verifying CONTRACTOR RELATED 3rd PARTIES are complying with the Quality Assurance and Control expectations outlined within this CONTRACT.
9.3 CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for all As-Built information and documentation. CONTRACTOR will redline drawings clearly showing all changes and revisions. Documents will be updated every shift and included in the QA documentation turned over at the completion of the WORK. ABC will review the As-Built drawings on a regular basis.
