Carl Robins strives to excel at his given position within the company, but lacks the knowledge and time management skills. As the appointed employee recruiter, Carl must handle every aspect of training new hires for the company. Hiring new employees will take ABC Inc. to a new level, and set the bar higher in the rapidly expanding world of software technology. With the new software being implemented into the growing company, ABC Inc. has several openings available for the new prospects.
ABC Inc., as any Fortune 500 company, takes the acquisition of new employees very seriously. As employees hold the foundation of the company together, the recruiter, Carl Robins, has the fundamental job of finding the best employees for the open positions.
Before any new hires can begin working, Carl must be sure that all documents are on file, as well as any required background and drug screenings. Having this information as quickly as possible, will ensure that the new employees have no delays in beginning their career.
Background
In early April, Carl Robins found and hired 15 new prospective employees to work for Operations Supervisor, Monica Carrolls. Carl had planned for the orientation for the trainees to be conducted in the training room on June 15th. Monica contacted Carl on May 15th, one month later, to inquire on the progress of the new hires, and the orientation. Carl assures her that everything is running smoothly.
After taking a few days off for a holiday, Carl soon finds himself in a difficult predicament. He finds that not only are some important documents missing, but the training room has been booked for the entire month of June, rendering his goal to have the trainees begin working by July, unworkable.
Carl's task is a difficult one, the main issue being the training facilities unavailable for the day he planned. He is unsure how this has happened, as he was sure he looked just the other day, and June 15th was available. Some trainees lacked a completed application or their transcripts on file, and none of them had been sent to the clinic for the mandatory drug screen. Finding suitable location to hold the orientation is at the core of the problem.
Key problems
This is Carl's first attempt at hiring new staff, and he lacked the knowledge on how to go about it properly. He faces possible disaster, because he failed to double check that everything was in order when Monica contacted him a full month prior to his scheduled orientation. He became complacent too quickly in his position and took an extended holiday before making certain he had all the necessary elements in order.
