Appetizers
The author’s choice of titling he chose was very accurate because it went with what the story was about which I liked. I would have chosen the same title if I was the author of this book. The title, “Brian’s Winter” is a good title because in the story Brian does go through this bad weather of winter. The title fits well with the story so then it would give the reader a heads up about what the story will be like and Brian’s Winter clearly tells you it’s going to be able this guy named Brian and he’s going to through winter and he will have to survive it. I would have chosen the same title.
In the first pages of the book, it hadn’t really grabbed my attention because I didn’t understand what was happening. But I have to continue reading so I kept reading. I finally got to understand what was happening which changed my perspective of the book. I understood what was happening which made me want to continue reading. The book may have not grabbed my attention in the beginning but it sure got it later on in the story.
Main Dishes
In the story, the main problem of all the problems Brian had gone through, is trying to survive the winter. He had to get plenty of food for the winter which meant he had to go hunting. But if he was going to hunt, he needed weapons. So he had to make some weapons and after he did that, he started hunting but then it got cold when he was hunting. So he had to make some sort of warmer clothing than what he had soon before it got below 0 degrees. He was able to survive and overcame his biggest problem and he eventually got rescued by someone.
This book wasn’t very hard or easy, was just about right for my reading level, which was good because I got to understand more words and more phrases. But there were some parts that I did not understand because some words were too hard to understand which was above my reading level. Even though there were some difficulties, there were easier parts, so this book was not very hard to read or easy to read, it was just about right.
Side Dishes
If I were able to meet one of the characters in “Brian’s Winter” I would want to meet Brian. I want to meet him because he is about my age and I would want to know more about how he survived. I would want to ask him some questions how he did it all by himself in the winter with nothing to use except what he had learned in the past. He is very brave and smart and I would want to learn from him. I would also want to know how he felt being out there alone by himself, like if he was scared or anything. That’s what I would want to talk about with one of the characters.
