I believe senior management needs to step back from all the numbers and focus on the people of the organization and culture. As I have learned it starts with leading the people not the numbers leading the people. With an ever changing business environment it is a very difficult task to lead a successful company over the long term. That is why management needs an organization that can adapt to changes in the business environment. Because in today’s business world if you are unable to change you will be passed and possibly out of business.
Someone once told me that “if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you always got”. There is an obvious need for change because continuing to reduce workforce, company benefits, and letting people go is not a formula for surviving in the 21st century. This is in fact the total opposite they are set up to fail. I believe this is why management needs to make some immediate changes within its organization and focus on the people instead of the numbers.
First off, I recommend that management needs to look into the mirror and determine if they are part of the problem. Cynthia dkdkd, an executive from Southwest Airlines who was part of developing the “Luv” culture, pointed out that a lot of managers put the blame on the employee, but in fact they are the problem. If management is hiring the right people but is not adequately developing them they are going to get frustrated and leave. Employees want to feel empowered and encouraged to do a great job by their management team. For example, expecting a bird dog without any formal training to excel in the field on hunt will be a total disaster. The dog needs to be properly trained and rewarded as he adheres to the owner; the same can be said for employees. Employees who are left in there cubicle without any direction or encouragement from there manager will never have an opportunity to meet their monthly numbers.
