EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT)

Emergency Medical Technicians are shortened to EMTs.

EMS or Emergency Medical Services consists of EMTs and paramedics.

Education and/or Training Required

A high school diploma. A formal training program must be completed by all EMTs.

EMT training takes for 3-6 months (depending on the course).

All states requires all EMTs to be licensed ; but the requirements varies by states.

Responsibilities and Daily Activities

EMTs provides basic life support.

They all can distribute oxygen to patients, and in most cases, they can distribute drugs to them such as Epi pens, aspirin and oral glucose.

They can provide CPR.

Fully capable of taking vital signs from the patient which includes their blood pressure, pulse, spinal movement, lung sounds and their respiratory rate.

Salary Range

The intermediate expected salary for a common EMT in the United States is $30,323.

In Maryland, The range for a basic EMT is $29,000.

Self-Reflection

This profession does not meet my career requirements. I want to be able to do more progressing activities instead of most likely being in the transportation services. The thought of the income this profession pays and the benefit I would get from helping others would be a wonderful experience, but being an EMT does not amuse me.
