Please watch the movie, The Devil Wears Prada and discuss the following questions:

1. If you were Andria’s boss-Miranda,why did you treat Andria in this way?

Miranda is the kind of bosses who wants to see jobs done, no matter how hard is it and she doesn’t care if employee can handle it or not. It can be noticed from the movie that everybody are afraid of her, but why would they be that much afraid? It is not because she looks scary or behaves herself as monster; she was hiring and firing staff very easily. It’s not shown in the movie, but we think that employees saw how she fired a lot people and they didn’t want to be fired.

Miranda didn’t treat Andrea specially, she treat her as any other employee. She made a job challenging. As it can be seen in the movie, Miranda made Andrea find the book by menacing with firing. It looks cruel, but it makes everybody do everything they can to maintain the goal which was by Miranda. Of course some of them quit the job, but for others, who could face all that stress and attain the aim, they felt increased self esteem. A lot of times, the opportunities of working in that company were mentioned, and it was really motivating every employee (Nigel is good example. He didn’t left the job even after that disappointment in the end or Emily also stayed at the job.)

From the second half of the movie Andrea realized that she also likes challenging work and she did everything to prove that she can do her job well. Miranda showed, in the end, that she really liked how Andrea has changed. She became strong and self-confident employee.
