Child Labor

Today, roughly 250 million children work full-time all over the world. Due to this fact, these children grow up restricted and damaged in many different ways including physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially, and spiritually. With that being said, I personally do not feel it is is ethically and morally okay for these children to be put to work at such a young age. I feel that the US should not be supportive of child labor in anyway due to the injustices associated with it. Children should be able to grow up care free and focus on developing, learning and simply enjoying their childhood. It is our duty as parents bringing up the next generation of the world to teach them responsibility and guide them down the right path so they have the chance to establish decent morals and values. Some people and/or companies may attempt to justify child labor by looking at different country's rising poverty levels. Since some of these poverty levels are at an all-time high, they may say that child labor is acceptable as long as the children are being treated fairly and are paid proper wages, but who are these people to really say that these children are being treated properly? In today society, greed leads our generation but it is not fair to subject these children to that greed. They are far too young to understand the difference between someone taking a little, versus taking way too much. Children at this age are still developing and learning what life is all about and are far too young to realize when they are being taken advantage of. I do, however, believe it is fair for a parent to instill a strong work ethic in a child at home within their own limitations. With that said, it is not okay for someone to force a child’s hand and say you have to give up your childhood and education to be overly worked liked an adult because it’s our society cultural norm.
