Controversial Rebuttal

The article I have chosen is Marijuana should be legal. In this article Pat Robertson says marijuana should be legalized and treated like alcohol because the government’s war on drugs has failed (Marijuana should be legal, 2012). He believes that a person should be able to go into a store and just purchase marijuana just like adults can purchase alcohol. In this day and age some clerks are not even carding or checking people identification for their age and to know that a child or someone who is not of age can come out of a store and purchase a control substance bothers me not to mention if they are able to buy marijuana really bothers me.

He states that one should not go to jail over the purchasing marijuana because that turns them into harden criminals. Well how would he know what type of background that particular person came from? He does not know what mindset the person was in to begin with and for him to just excuse the fact is just mind boggling.

Now in the same breath he states he does not encourage people to use narcotics in any shape size or form. Now I am confused, he is for legalization for leisure usage but does not encourage people to use narcotics.

Facts have shown that sixteen states have legalized marijuana even the District of Columbia but here is my claim if marijuana is going to be legal then what next? The harden drugs will be next if we legalize this drug throughout the country.

If marijuana is legalized then that would eliminate any penalties that could come with possession and make it just the same and purchasing alcohol. The question is are we really ready for that? I am a mother and I have a problem with knowing that marijuana can be obtained by just walking into a store. Maybe I am old fashioned but I like the way it was where everyone knew that marijuana is just not allowed. And I do feel sorry for those that have ailments that need some type of way to kill the pain, but are we saying that
