WHAT Section
Skill: Self Management
For my first skill and my signature skill, I have chosen to develop my Self-Management skill from Chapter 3: Managing Yourself to Get Things Done. My scores from the Discover Yourself Summary, were as following: Procrastination: 10/15; Metacognition: 13/15; Higher Cognition: 10/15. From these specific score and the rest of the test, I have realized that I am conscious with my decision to procrastinate and leave things to the last minute. These scores indicate that I lack self discipline needed to direct my ability to manage my time wisely and this can be seen very evidently with my the mishap that occurred during the exams last semester, Specifically, knowing that I have back-to-back exams on the same day, I had not given myself enough time to completely study for one of my Math courses. Although I did well in the other courses, my final math grade suffered a lot due to my lack of organization and commitment to the appropriate allocation of my time,
Skill: Social Capital (Networking)
My second skill is Social Capital, from Chapter 8: Networks, Relationships, and Soft Power. My tests results from the Discover Yourself were rather low as I got 22/30. I know that networking has been one of my biggest weakness, and the test scores reassures that. I chose this skill because given my test scores, I know this is one of my biggest weaknesses. Given my past experiences with networking events, I know that once I am out talking to people, I will have a good time; but I think the biggest struggle for me is to get myself prepared for that encounter. Recently, I attended the Commerce Internship Program (CIP) Night, where students pursuing an Internship can network with hiring managers and past interns of various organizations. My biggest fear was to get myself ready for the event before time as I was very reluctant to go. Once I was there, I had an exciting night where I got to talk to countless professionals and gain insight of their firm's culture.
