There are 3 main categories of e-commerce: business-to-business (B2B), consumer-to-consumer (C2C), and business-to-consumer (B2C). B2B are companies doing business with each other. The cycle would be Manufactures selling to distributors selling to wholesalers selling to retailers. B2C are companies selling goods to the general public with some kind of shopping cart software. Most websites break down what they offer by either category or price. C2C are sites like EBay that allow customers to sell to other customer using programs such as PayPal.
o Compare and contrast electronic payment systems. Which type do you use most often? Which type is most applicable for organizations you interact with regularly?
The most common types of electronic payments systems are credit cards, digital wallets, micropayments, accumulated balance digital payments, stored value payment system, and digital checking. The use of a credit card makes the customer input his or her information in each time they buy something where a digital wallet will store the customers information and automatically input it for the customer. I use credit cards payment systems to pay most of my bills and I do use the accumulated balance digital payment system when I use ITunes.
o Explain how Internet technology supports business-to-business e-commerce.
Internet technology supports business-to-business e-commerce by connecting companies together without picking up the phone to place an order or mail and invoice to try and get paid. Companies send their orders to each other in an encrypted tunnel through the Internet at the speed of light.
