This article’s main argument is that diversity in the work environment is crucial to any business because we are living in an increasingly global complex economy and society. How is this happening? With the help of the internet service and mobile technology; organizations, industries, entrepreneurs and consultants are involved in both the making and consuming a product or service abroad.
Consequently is important for a micro and macro organization to use diversity in their work force, so it can better understand the cultural boundaries and relations among identity groups. And just in case, I mean identity groups to any group composed of non- identical individuals as well.
As stated by David W. Pitts research:
[When the review of Public Personnel Administration (ROPPA) was first published in 1980, White males accounted for 86% of all Senior Executive Service (SES) employees in the U.S. federal government. By 2008, that number had decreased to 65%. In addition to more racial/ethnic and gender diversity, globalization has led to increases in cultural and linguistic diversity as well. About 18% of all households in the United States use a language other than English, and about 13% of U. S. residents were born in a different country. These changes in the workforce diversity have required organizations to change how they think about human resources management].
As an analyst working for a global investment and service bank, I am a witness that diversity is a key concept of my daily task and investment activities. Communication in person (clients) and heavy email interaction or telephone usage with several international business operations groups; an example is (Pune, India) where core functions for the business are process suggest that recognizing every point and idea helps the organization to see the value of others unique contribution.
In contrast, they are the few organizations which don’t elect diversity as the core of their environment. And not recognizing there is value in the people who bring different points of view will impact effective solutions and such organization can’t remain competitive in the global market. Diversity at my work environment is about respect the ethnic differences and learning how one must be willing to engage others who have a different point of view because of their culture or background.
