Dear Exchange Student!
Congratulations! We have been informed by your home university that you are selected to participate in the Student Exchange Program at the Norwegian School of Economics. We look forward to welcome you to NHH for the spring 2016 or for the whole year! By receiving this email, you have been accepted into our program ☺
My name is Ms Norunn J Økland and I will be your main contact-person during your stay in Bergen together with my colleagues Merete and Emilie. I work as the International Relations Coordinator at the Section for Student Exchange and Internationalisation. For any questions, please use exchange@nhh.no or the facebook page. I receive alot of emails both here and on Facebook, so please be patient.
In this letter I would like to give you some useful and practical information connected to your stay in Bergen.
ACADEMIC YEAR
The academic year 2015/2016 will have the following dates:
Fall 2015: August 10th - December 18th
Spring 2016: January 6th - June 17th
Depending on the exams you take, you might of course finish earlier than the last date. Those dates will not be available until June 15th for the fall semester and December 15th for the spring semester.
VISA AND RESIDENCE PERMIT

All exchange students, except those from the Nordic countries, must obtain a formal residence permit after arrival in Norway. We organize a meeting with the Bergen police for you.
Exchange students from China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan are also required to have a visa in addition to a residence permit. The visa must be obtained before arriving in Norway. We advice students to file their applications for visa as soon as possible after admittance to NHH. The application should be filed with the Norwegian Embassy in your home country and should include:
- Letter of acceptance as an exchange student at NHH (scan version)
- Confirmation that housing arrangements in Norway has been made (sib.no)
- Formal documentation of sufficient funds to complete the period of study at NHH (will be found in the Letter of Acceptance)
- Health Insurance
If you have questions regarding visa or residence permit, please contact your local Norwegian Embassy. Please note that the fee for obtaining residence permit is NOK 3200, which has to be paid when you hand in your application.

The Letter of acceptance from NHH confirming both that you have been accepted as an Exchange student and that housing has been provided for you at Hatleberg or another SIB run student hostel in Bergen, will only be sent by regular mail to your attention if you need it. In all other matters, a scanned version should be sufficient. Email works fine for all the forms we need. We do not need the originals!
