Executive Summary

Novartis is a Swiss leader multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. In the past five years, Novartis had faced several ethical criticisms regarding certain drug packaging, efficacy and had assisted to the closure of one of its plants in Lincoln.

Novartis has implemented actively CSR in its strategy with the goal to develop a sustainable healthy world. It is the first firm to be accredited from the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). Engaged in the UN global compact, Novartis practices its principles in its core business activities. In addition, it collaborates with governments with the intention of creating pricing arrangements and fighting counterfeit medicine.

Novartis reaches more than 1.1 billion individuals each year. However, the world population is more than 7 billion requiring healthcare demand. Therefore, Novartis main activities are conceived to reach more patients and locations where healthcare expectations are barely met. Sandoz is the pharmaceutical division in Novartis, working intensively to meet the growing demand and give access to affordable and high-quality healthcare.

Business activities in Novartis are conducted with integrity and high transparency. Indeed, it was named the most transparent large healthcare company by Transparency International. Novartis operates carefully in its environment by using renewable energy and lowering its emissions, and other factors affected the society.

It heavily invests in R&D to provide constant innovative and affordable products by working with its diverse stakeholders to optimize patient outcomes. R&D operations are executed in developed countries, where the CSR rules are strictly regulated, to ensure its clinical trials protect human rights. No child labor has been reported over the past years. Novartis provides safe working conditions to its employees with correct wages and prospective career opportunities.
