Food Manufacturing in Vietnam

Nowadays, along with the dramatic development of economy, one of the most developing industries we have to mention is the food industry. It can be seen that the food industry is changing remarkably recently with better focus on food products’ quality and safety, as well as different ways food is manufactured and processed. Food manufacturing can be considered as the most essential part in the food production since it directly impacts the final products delivered to consumers. Therefore, in this report, I will focus on the food manufacturing aspect, especially in the Vietnamese market. There have been many issues related to the food manufacturing in Vietnam lately, which have resulted in severe situations for consumers. According to FOODSEG 2012, food safety has become one of the most concern and priority issues in Vietnam since 1990. It can be seen from Exhibit 1 that the number of infected and deaths because of food poisoning did not decrease from 2000 to 2010. It raises a big concern to me with regards to the quality and food safety within the Vietnamese food industry.The report is continued with four sections. The first section describes briefly the background of the food manufacturing in Vietnam. Next, CSR and CSR dimensions in general and its practices in Vietnam are discussed to bring about a more thorough understanding of the role of CSR in the country’s food manufacturing. Then, it is moved forward to the improvement of the food-manufacturing operations concerning different CSR dimensions. Last but not least, the forth part analyzes objectively the effects of the improvement on the food- manufacturing sector in Vietnam.
