Future of Shopping

In one faraway village in Supanburi province, it is another hot day without any sign of clouds in the sky. This vast field is in drought, the cracks of soil expresses that this is the dry season. The small canal nearby the rice field was used to release the water into the field, but now it is just dry and cracked. The trees along the levee are nearly dead and provide no shade.
There is an old 75-year-old man who sits on the levee beside the field. His name is Sai. He was casting a look to his field with vision thinking about his son. His small hut is near the field. Sai lives with his wife named Chan. Chan has hemiplegia and now she is laying down on the plain floor with hard soil, which both of them called “bed”.
“Are you hungry Chan? I’ll cook for your dinner, you need to rest.” Sai talked to his wife with softly tone from the outside of the house.
“…” Chan does not respond but she smiles with watery eyes. She thinks that she is a luckiest wife in the word who has such a good husband.
Last dry season, she was healthy like always. During offseason, she works as a part time massager. She gets paid 20 baht per hour. Although, the money from her part time job is not much, she can live for week with only 200 baht. Five months ago, Chan instantly fainted while she was cooking for dinner. Fortunately, Sai got back home early and he saw his wife blacked out on the floor in the kitchen. Then, Sai immediately call his neighbors for help in order to took his wife to local hospital.
