Discuss the role of performance management in establishing and maintaining corporate culture.
Performance management is prospective system designed improve performance. Performance appraisal is a minor subset of performance management, which focuses more on planning for performance and positive and corrective and corrective feedback to help in employee continue good performance and improve poor performance. The lynchpin making all these services work well is the quality of the employees and the degree to which they are motivated to provide "over the top" attention to client (Kavanagh & Thite 2009).With high expectation by clients, every employee is expected to provide flawless service. Grandview has employee from all the countries in which they do business. All employees are expecting to speak English. Grandview has invested heavily in developing a uniform corporate culture but has not succeeded in doing so in all locations. One difficulty has been the PM and reward systems. Each geographic area developed its own PM tools reflecting local culture and the experience of national employees (Kavanagh & Thite 2009). There has been enormous push back and noncompliance with PM policies from the employees because of the difficulty of the paper performance process as well as the nine different languages being used worldwide.

Compensation is one of the most complex topic in HRM, and attempting present an
overview is ambitious. Corporate HR has PM and rewards modules in its HRIS covering U.S. employees, but this cover only about 60 % of Grandview's employee population (Kavanagh & Thite 2009). An executive rewards module does cover about 2,000 senior executive worldwide, but all foreign data are sent from different locations and entered into the module at headquarter. Part of the historic reason for this is legal requirement in the EU and some other locales covering information privacy: it is easier to get executives to grant permission for transmission of specific data when those data are used to calculate stock option awards and other executive incentive payments granted by the corporate.
