Subject: Grantsmanship Training
An effective way to decrease administrative expense and increase funding capacity is to invest in the training of the current executive director to learn proposal writing and fund raising skills and perform these services as part of a new job description. This is a request for approval and funds for the training being sponsored by PSE&G and the Grantsmanship Center. The investment in hiring grant writers per proposal is not producing the funding streams expected. It is evident that this haphazard method does not produce the experienced professional writers that get the results needed. After analyzing the current financial position it is apparent that a full time grant writer is needed on staff that has the ability to reach organizational needs. At present this non-profit lacks a sustainable financial engine to strategically support current mission activities. The present funding capacity does not yield the necessary dollars to continue these activities in the future without worry of shutdown.
The Grantsmanship program has trained over 115,000 non profits and government agencies. There is five day training workshop coming to this area that it is suggested the director attend. The fee for the course is $875. (The Grantsmanship Center, 2010) The training will be held at the Prudential Building October 25th through the 30th.
