Implementing Starbucks strategy

An activity Starbucks implements is its commitment to community. According to their company profile, Starbucks “recognizes the relationship between its success and the strength and vitality of the community where it operates.” Starbucks aims to have a strong presence in the communities it serves because along with the positive impact on the world, it will also positively affect business. It achieve this through charitable contributions, and three of these are literacy foundation, youth leadership programs, as well many hours donating to community service.

Starbucks also utilizes environmental conservation as a strategy to achieve the goals in its mission statement. Recycling programs aim to reduce waste and make the company more efficient, forest conservation helps keep the planet thriving, and sustainable coffee program aims to reduce and reverse the damage that the coffee industry has inflicted upon the environment. These goals help the environment while also provide a quality coffee at the lowest price possible.

Customer service remains an important facet of the Starbucks’ experience. It achieves the highest level by providing clean and inviting stores, friendly service, and convenience. Starbucks accomplishes convenience by opening many stores in both rural and urban areas, as well as incorporating drive-thrus in their repertoire.

Starbucks puts product quality in the very first place. It insists on purchasing high-quality Arabica coffee beans, sending buyers personally to the coffee-growing areas to check the beans, and having professional roasters to roast the beans. Besides coffee, Starbucks also provides food service and ensures only the finest products are sold to its customers.

Employee satisfaction is what Starbucks seeks as to realize its missions. Unlike other corporations, Starbucks calls its employees “partners” to show respect. It offers employees benefit packages, stock options and extensive training programs. The combination of these actions keeps the focus on growth and development of the employees, instead of just treating them as cogs in the operation.

Starbucks attributes to measure (EDIT!)

There are several attributes Starbucks can use to measure the effectiveness of its strategy towards a commitment to community, environment, customer service, product quality and employee satisfaction. One attribute Starbucks can measure for community involvement is the amount of donations to charities. According to the company profile, “Starbucks has committed $10.5 million to three not-for-profit organizations- the Calvert Foundation, Verde Ventures and EcoLogic Finance (QUOTE).” These generous donations to local farmers and suppliers indicate a passion for supporting local business and show Starbucks is fulfilling its strategy of community involvement.
