There isn’t a definite number for the population that Global Motors is trying to reach. They are hoping to contact around 115 million homes within the United States. Because of the large number of consumers they are trying to reach, it would be very important to pick the most convenient way to survey participants.
A telephone interview would be very hard to complete. It isn’t an impossible task but it may take months or even years to call every individual and have them take the time to honestly answer the telephone questions. You also have to find access to everyone’s phone numbers, and you are likely to dial numbers that are not in service, it would be too much of a hassle. A mail survey is better than a telephone survey but once again, I think it is too much of a hassle. Most people will delay the amount of time they have to turn in the survey. Some people may not ever return it. It will also be very costly to print and ship all of the surveys to consumers. I think that an internet survey would be most effective. People use to internet as leisure time so they are more likely to take a short survey. You can also pay for ad spaces so that the survey will be seen by specific demographics. It is easy, and doesn’t take much effort to get done and the results will be sent in immediately.
The main issue when dealing with surveys no matter the type is getting participation. People feel like they are being harassed when asked to take small surveys, especially if there is no incentive for it. Even if people do take surveys it is important to try to get that information transferred to that it can be used for specific purposes. You also want people to give the most honest answers, many people can lie just to get the survey over with.
Random Digit dialing would be advantage because it would produce numbers that would not be listed if we tried to use another source like a phone book. This allows us to have millions of possibilities and options and will produce a wide variety of potential consumers. An issue when dealing with digit dialing is the possibility of biased answers because of non-responders. If one group in favor of something is answering the phone the most, their choices would be taken into consideration over those who did not answer the phone.
I think that Global Motors should use something similar to Knowledge Networks Inc. I think their system has a great marketing advantage by allowing those without internet access the ability to receive a laptop with internet services paid by the company. They also are able to contact households that are cellphone users only that would be overlooked if they simply used digit dialing. I think it is a great way of combining telephone sampling and internet sampling to product the most accurate outcome.

Based on the information given between company A and Company B, I believe that Global Motors should pick Company B. I think that both companies had great attributes, however I think that company B will be able to handle issues in a more professional matter based on the answers that they were given.
