CULTURE
Like India, South Africa is also a High context culture. Hence, both the countries are found to be almost similar in this context. Culture plays a very important role in making all the decisions.
• Value System of both countries is highly similar. Values include sympathy, respect, sensitive to gender, right to ask question, empathy, sharing, compassion etc. Ubuntu is highly valued in South Africa.
• Cultural diversity in both countries is due to various religious sects residing in it. In South Africa major region found are Christianity (68%), Islam (2%) etc. Whereas in India Hinduism is most dominant (80.46%)
• There are 11 official languages in South Africa; Hindi is official language of India.
• Education system is very similar to that of India. Both have education structure which is divided into phases like primary, secondary, higher secondary, graduation. In India education can be private or government driven but in South Africa it is completely government driven.
• Social Interaction in both countries is emotionally driven. It is mainly family rooted, for long term relationships, social standing. But in certain developed areas (Johannesburg) can have materialistic values attached.
• Material life in both the countries changed drastically after industrialisation. In South Africa it is more towards mining whereas in India it is more towards services.
