- Give an example when you solved a problem and what steps do you follow to study a problem before making a decision?
Most preferred response:
- The interviewee should demonstrate a plan of action including following steps
- Define the problem to be solved and decision to be made.
- Gather the necessary information.
- List all possible choices.
- Consider possible outcomes for each choice.
- Identify the possible reasons for the problem along with their respective probabilities.
- Identify the possible solutions for the problem and identify their impact on the business
- From the possible solutions, choose the best one.
- The answer was properly formulated and followed STAR (Situation Task Action Results) format.
- The interviewee gave an relevant and detailed example portraying high levels of planning, organizing and decision making skills.
Neutral response:
- The interviewee’s response was satisfactory but not detailed
- Intermediate level of planning and organizational skills displayed though the response
- The response did not follow the STAR (situation, task, action, result) completely
Least preferred response:
- The interviewee exhibits poor planning and decision-making skills
- Gives irrelevant examples i.e starts narrating stories with no clear connection to the question.
- Shows negative behavioral traits such as anxiety, panic and chaos while facing a problem.
- The response was not organized and did not reflect Situation, Task, Action and Result.
- Tell me about a time when a co-worker was not doing their fair share of work. How did you handle the situation?
Most preferred response:
- The interviewee should demonstrate high level of self-control and professionalism.
- Try to resolve the conflict on personal level without creating a scene
- Be able to cope with the differences between different individuals and respect their values
- Assess the situation and act professionally
- Bring in the supervisor when situation goes out hand
- Gives relevant example that clearly shows how professionally the situation was handled.
Neutral response:
- The response was short and precise.
- Related to the situation but did not provide much detail
- Popper steps were taken to handle the situation but did not explain much about the interviewee’s personal behavior
Least preferred response:
- The interviewee displays ill behavior and poor management of the situation.
- Brings in the supervisor without talking to the co-worker first on a personal level
- Displays unprofessional attitude and takes decision based on personal emotions
- Gives irrelevant examples.
