Some of the employers ban tattoos is because of the first impression they give to the employers. This is because people perceive tattoo as a bad person and doesn't look nice, which generally not accepted by the older generation. While some of them don't mind because some employers don't think that a person with tattoo isn't completely a bad person.
You need to be aware of your prospective company's dress code and body-art policies. Some companies allow non-offensive visible tattoos, while others demand a job-specific appropriate dress code when it is matter of catering to a clientele; sales personnel may be asked to wear full sleeves to conceal his visible tattoos, though non-offensive, when he meets with the clients. Employers in hiring practices may have prejudices about tattoos, and your open display of tattoo could hamper your job prospects. Customer-service industries make company rules with the client as the focus, and although employee rights are present, the industry doesn't give them the right to display tattoos; they expect them to make a good impression on the general public.
Of course it's not fair for employers to reject applicants who have tattoo, this clearly show that if a person is rejected just because they have tattoo, they are under discrimination over tattoos people. People with numerous tattoos may be treated differently when out in the public eye. They may be stared at or not taken seriously. They may feel as if they need to cover up their tattoos in order to be treated fairly. Unfortunately, there are no laws regarding tattoo discrimination, yet. The employment laws only cover discrimination against race, age, sex, or religion. There is nothing in the law books regarding discrimination against those people who have tattoos.
Depends on what kind of job that the company offer, some of the company maybe doesn't look at their appearance but the job technique and skills require for the job. Tattoos do not become an issue when they are concealed. Although you may believe that bringing up the tattoo issue is unfair in any hiring process, you have to accept the possibility that people may find it unattractive and could base decisions on that. It could help to cover the tattoo with work-appropriate clothing and hide your artistic bent of mind when you seek employment in the corporate sector or in a customer-based firm; presenting the right appearance is as essential as your skill and is critical in a hiring process.
