Title: Life Styles Inventory
Course number and title: MGMT-591-65204 Leadership and Organizational Behavior
According to my LSI circumplex, my primary personal thinking style is the Self-actualizing with a 95% score. My back up personal thinking style is the affiliative with a score of 83%. This is to a greater extend manifested in both my life and work. In the work environment I always accept the differences collogues and workmates and try to further understand how our differences may improve the quality of teamwork and achieve desired results. In life I have always been one to live in the present moment and avoid stressing about things that I don’t have control over, instead I believe in a situation, what it requires and acting to improve it.
The back-up affiliative is also manifested in that I value my personal relationships, I am still friends with people I went to high school and college with despite the fact that we have grown up to be different people and also that we live in different parts of the world. At work I am always friendly to team and work mates. I believe that a good and happy work environment make the job more enjoyable and brings out the best in people.
As show in my circumplex, self actualizing is described as high acceptance of self, others and situations as they are, health sense of self worth, strong curiosity about people and things, live in the moment and enjoy the present moment and motivated by values and beliefs. The above description are accurate in that I believe that I have to value and respect myself first if anyone is to respect me. I also believe in self development.
As for the Backup style Affiliative is described as being enjoying company of others, values relationship, a need to built relationships that are meaningful and reciprocal, strong well developed interpersonal skills, tendency to motivate others and using praise and friendliness and most effective of others. The affiliative is also descriptive of me in that I value my relationships and do not take people I love for granted. However, I disagree with the fact that I am most effective in the company of others. In fact I perform better if I do something without supervision or company.
I believe my limiting style is the perfectionistic style. A perfectionist is someone with very high standards and wants everything to be just right at all times. Here are the attributes; performs at a very high level to attain feelings of self worth, tendency to attach self worth, repetitive and sometimes ritualistic behavior, a tendency to place excessive demand on self and others, a perceptionist with detail that distorts perceptive and judgment, an excessive concern with avoiding mistakes and ability to deal with and or express emotions. I think being perfectionistic reduces my overall effectiveness when it comes to time management. In most cases I do end up meeting deadlines but I will take much longer to do a task than other people because I want to make sure that its perfect . I also have a high self-esteem when I know that I have done something to its perfection and the reverse is true, for instance when I realize that I did not do something the right way I feel embarrassed and demotivated and embarrassed and I spent sometime focusing on my mistake instead of correcting it and moving on.
