Saturn of Smithtown is a privately own small dealership in the city of Smithtown, New York. It is the main Saturn dealer for Smithtown. They lease and finance all new and used Saturn’s at a no-haggle price. It also has an enormous parts and service departments. Collectivity it employs roughly 45 people between the sales, service, administrative, and internet sales office. The dealer has been in the same location for about 20 years and is owned by a father and son who are in a partnership. They have been in the cars business for almost 50 years and make all the final decisions for the dealership.
The hierarchical organization starts from top with the partnership between the owners, followed by the general manager. The general manager oversees the new car sales manager, used car manager, administrative office manager, and the service department manager. The finance manager pretty much reports to himself and the owners. The sales team reports to both new and used car managers and sometimes the general manger or finance manager depending on the situation. The administrative office manager has the internet sales office and her administrative reporting to her.
The hierarchical organization is company is very convoluted, and for this reason is does not effectively work the way it should. Decisions are made without the proper communication between management, which causes people in the organization different headaches and setbacks, like having to redo paper and conflicting sale prices being offer to customers in some cases. Members of the sales team carry the brunt of the issues because as the face the customer has to look at, they look incompetent because of flaws in the hierarchical organization.
