What is the function of resources and leadership roles in IT management?
There are three types of managing IT resources: Technology Infrastructure, Human Resources and Business/IT Relationships. It is important that managers as well as employees have the right information when dealing with technology infrastructure. In order to insure that everyone has the required information; effective planning, building and operating of a computer and communication infrastructure must be implemented. This is a critical management IT role; effective management technology requires not only skilled IT managers and IT professionals but business managers as well (Brown, DeHayes, Hoffer, Martin, Perkins, 2012).
Human Resources, there is a high demand for personnel with technology skills as well as business knowledge and interpersonal skills. HR positions, business-facing positions are often hired internally due to their knowledge and experience of the industry. IT professionals with a business background are in demand for these type positions. Business/IT Relationships is very critical, there needs to be a combination of business and IT. Business values as well as IT structure creates goals which develop strong partnerships with business executives and IT managers (Brown et al., 2012).
IT Leadership Roles, IT leaders are expected to work closely with the senior management team as well as the company’s executives in order to align the goals of the business. IT leaders are the heart of an organization; they are responsible for system operations, date centers and networks, technology, financial planning for IS department. Also designing and building the company’s IS architecture, maintaining and acquiring software applications. In some corporations, they are responsible for payroll and HR functions.
