My Career Interests and Competencies

        The University of Phoenix offers career interests, and also has the career interest profiler to examine where I may want to be in the future. I learned careers that matched me as an individual and how to utilize these skills based on what I received. The career interest profiler saw me as, “ENFP” stating that jobs I may want to consider are Publicist, Research assistant, Playwright, Restaurateur, Columnist, or a Conflict Manager. I was a little surprised by this since I am currently in a sales job which I excel at and am just looking to stay in the same line of work. I am just hoping someday to move up in the corporate world to receive a nice salary, rather than thrive on commission. But the conflict mediation that was part of my analysis was very appealing to me. It states that I am, “People oriented, creative, and highly optimistic” (Jungian 16). I agree with every part of this analysis since this what I enjoy most about my job. Being around and meeting new people is great, I am also able to be creative and think outside of the box in my current job. But of course there is a lot of negativity in sales and I must continue to be optimistic when I hit road blocks. After this course it has opened my eyes into other opportunities that I may be interested in, but I never considered since I am happy with my company and position. I am just hoping to move up in management.

        The Career Builder Competencies tool lists many different strengths and my weakness. This is not intimidating for me. I see this as an opportunity to work on my weakness only to make me better-rounded, and more successful in the future if I work on them. Not only did the personality assessment tell me a lot, but the experience in the class opened my eyes to fierce determination also. Class members in my group not participating, having to pick up the slack for them. Other group members not putting in as much effort leaving a majority of the work to myself and another team member. But it showed that I am determined to be successful in all my classes for my MBA.  I feel comfortable with these results, and showed that I have the abilities to manage time effectively by planning in advance to ensure projects are completed. Now that I know my personality strengths and weaknesses I will only be stronger in any aspect of the corporate world.
