Since the opening of Ocean Park in 1977 until the arrival of Hong Kong Disneyland in 2005, Ocean Park has enjoyed 28 years of near monopoly as a theme park. This means that there are no competitors for Ocean Park in that time period. However, as we look to the future, I think that competitors for Ocean Park would be other theme parks that will open in Mainland China (especially in the cities near Hong Kong).
My choice would be to re-invest. As a theme park which has been established for 28 years, Ocean Park has been a long-time favorite for several generations. It is mentioned that people who had visited the park as children were then bringing their children to visit the park. This shows that Ocean Park has captured locals' hearts and remained as precious childhood memories for many people, thus making them loyal to Ocean Park. Besides that, there are some differences between Ocean Park and Hong Kong Disneyland which highlight the uniqueness of Ocean Park and support my decision to re-invest:
1. Ocean Park is locally born and bred, making it a cultural heritage. Meanwhile, Hong Kong Disneyland is a foreign business and not related to Hong Kong culture at all.
2. Ocean Park's primary focus is nature and wildlife. Meanwhile, Hong Kong Disneyland's primary focus is cartoon characters, castles, virtual reality, and fantasy.
3. Ocean Park's objective is to furnish Hong Kong residents with a place for recreation and to educate them about marine life and environmental conservation. Meanwhile, Hong Kong Disneyland's objective is mainly for recreation. This could benefit Ocean Park because Chinese parents are known to like educational things for their kids.
