Paul Spiegelman studied in UCLA and opened up his presentation saying that one of the key factors for success in a new business is to change the way business is done. What I understood from this sentence is that no matter in what business we are getting to, we have to do it with passion. He also said that we have to feel passionate about going to work and also feel happy of waking up in the morning knowing we’re going to work. He started his business called Beryl Comp. which is a “call center” that exists till the present day. What Beryl offers is comprehensive call center services that are ultimately designed to improve the patient experience. The services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week referral for hospitals. They work with 500 hospitals and have now four entities. What most amazes me about the guest speakers that come to TCU is how simple they make it look how starting a business may be. With a lot of dedication and internal will, I believe that everything is possible in life. I am studying Entrepreneurship and Marketing and one of the reasons I am studying Entrepreneurship is because I want to start my business small and make it grow throughout all Bolivia.
While starting his business, nobody wanted to donate money to Spiegelman and his associate because they were young and had no management experience. Doors opened to them when a woman got her life saved after being robbed and had a lock where the Beryl Company could here everything that was happening to her. At the moment, they are located in the second place for medium sized business and also won the title for “best places to work in Fort Worth”. One of the reasons Spiegelman mentions it is a pleasant environment in his business because everybody is passionately inclined towards the same goal, there is no hostile behavior, and Spiegelman being the CEO, relates to them and their problems in a caring and open way making the employees feel that they and their work is important. In my Marketing Class, I also studied a similar concept, which is the principle of empowering employees so that they feel they are important and worth being in the organization, thus putting even more effort in the organization.
