Weaknesses of Carrefour
The most frequently identified weaknesses are slowing sales performance and it will made their profit has consistently under achieved its own ambitious growth targets in many countries. They are lagging rival operators by a large margin at the same time. Therefore, its growth targets appear over-ambitious. Carrefour failed to live up to pre-merger expectations in terms of projected benefits. Additionally, Carrefour still has an unwieldy portfolio of stores in some countries such as France and Belgium. The stores opening have slowed. Furthermore, their E-commerce development has been lacklustre. They also are facing problem of the personnel department that dearth of local management and expertise in some markets.
Overcome the Weaknesses of Carrefour
Carrefour was on track with its turnaround plan, as it focuses on sales growth and a cost-savings program after the economic slump hit retail consumption across Europe. Carrefour plans to restructure its operations in Belgium by cutting staff and shutting a number of stores, after struggling to hold ground against local competitors Delhaize Group (DEG) and Colruyt (COLR.BT). Moreover, the Carrefour brand is starting to grow stronger online. In order to boost customer satisfaction in its home market, in 2008 Carrefour launched a new, single portal, Carrefour.fr, for all its e-commerce sites: Ooshop for food and CarrefourOnline for non-food items. These sites are coming up with innovative ideas under the Carrefour brand. As well as becoming more user-friendly, CarrefourOnline expanded its offering and carried out successful promotional campaigns.
