Planning Strategically
The online interactive simulation entitled "Planning Strategically" puts you in charge and responsible for charting the future of the Cartwright-Porter Regional Airport in Greggs County Texas. This simulation allows you to select the company's vision, mission and values statement. The interactive exercise requires that you develop strategic plans and evaluates you plan. It also interjects turbulent times into the simulation by evaluating how you react and manage the company during rough times. Your decisions through out the process are evaluated and the simulation provide feed back by showing you the optimal selection all in an effort to allow the you to see the impact you have on the company's operations.
Planning is generally broken up into four types of plans: strategic, operational, tactical and contingency. Strategic planning is typically performed by top management and is focusing on the big picture. It establishes the organization's mission statement, vision and values. As part of the simulation, you have to select statements that represent the Cartwright-Porter Regional Airport vision, mission and values. As the vision statement I selected "To transformer the airport into an exciting, efficient, safe and cost competitive air transportation center in Texas." The simulation stated that this an excellent choice but I did not fair as well when selecting the mission and values statement. Management is responsible to take the time and creating vision, mission and value statement that represent the goals and ideals of the company. This is an important part of strategic planning.
