PART B

QUESTION 3:

There are 3 critical paths in this project:

  1. 1        6        7        8        9        10        11        12        16        19        20        21[pic 1][pic 2][pic 3][pic 4][pic 5][pic 6][pic 7][pic 8][pic 9][pic 10][pic 11]
  2. 1        6        7        12        16        19        20        21                [pic 12][pic 13][pic 14][pic 15][pic 16][pic 17][pic 18]
  3. 1        6        7        12        19        20        21        [pic 19][pic 20][pic 21][pic 22][pic 23][pic 24]

Project duration is 42 days

QUESTION 4:

The earliest date this project can be completed is on 7th September 2015. Here we can conclude that this project is in critical condition as the project’s earliest plan was to complete it by 5th September 2015. There is a delay of 2 days from the time agreed. Hence, the project is liable to a penalty charge of £10,000 per day (total of £20,000 for 2 days delay). Few steps can be taken in order to avoid this penalty charges, for example, adding in resources to complete the project, can shorten critical path timescales to bring a project back on target, such as extend the working time from 5 days per week to 6 to 7 days per week (overtime) or by outsourcing. Working during the bank holiday also may change the complete date to 4th September 2015, allowing it to fall within the agreed time. The project manager may aim to reduce the time by using the available resources in non critical activities.
