Project : Move the department of VP information
Project management exercise
Background
The Corporate Customer Services Department of Lanasys Consulting Services Company, Inc. maintains close contact with Lanasys customers. The department is organized into three groups: Engineering, which provides networking and I.T. consulting services; Legal/financial, also provides Lanasys corporate legal and financial services. Administration provides the department’s human resource management services and works closely with the corporate human resource department. Engineering deals almost exclusively with Lanasys customers and only occasionally provides engineering services within the corporation. All other support for the department comes from the appropriate corporate office.
The Corporate Customer Service Department will soon move to the hi-tech industrial park near the corporate offices. A last-minute change has made space originally planned for another corporate department available for the corporate customer service department. The department is currently housed in an older, less desirable office building where the department has outgrown the available space. Additional space is needed to meet current needs and for future expansion. While the move is only a few miles away, now is the time to start thinking about the project.
Vice President of Corporate Customer Service Information
As Vice President of Corporate Customer Services, you are well aware of the need to provide high-quality customer service at a reasonable cost. The upcoming move, while it comes at a busy time for the department, will go a long way in meeting future space needs. Unfortunately, you were not able to obtain additional office space while speaking with the corporate planners. Corporate has allocated $50,000 for equipment and office furnishings, but the moving costs have to come out of your overhead budget (about $9500). You hope to minimize costs by using as much of the existing office equipment and furnishings as possible.
