Reflection Assignment
When I got accepted to the University of Maryland I was beyond thrilled, but I had a tough choice to make. My top two schools were UMD and Penn State, and I had gotten into both. One of the key reasons that I chose Maryland was because I got into the BSE program, and not a day goes by where I don’t regret my decision. The BSE program has opened my eyes and has given me opportunities to listen to speakers that I would not have had the chance to before. These speakers have impacted me in such a distinct way that I now view particular aspects of life differently.
Although she was not CEO of a major company, or even out of college yet, Erica Doukakis was one of my favorite speakers. It is not that I was ever interested in the topic of saving mother earth or really attempting to go green, it was all about the connections she made with us students. She explained how we, as a Terrapin family, need to make a difference on campus in the way we view the environment. I believe that I have begun to do just that. Again, this is not saying that I have gone out and joined environmental club or anything, however I do try to work on my usage of certain things. Now when I take showers, I don’t leave the water running until it is at my perfect temperature, nor do I stay in there for over 15 minutes. I have also been getting much better at shutting the lights off when I leave my room, so as to not waste electricity.
At the end of Spring 2014 semester, I want to have the full capability and knowledge on how to start my own business. Not only that, but I want to have it run well. I don’t want to ever have to question myself on my next move, because I want the BSE scholars program to teach me the steps towards greatness in entrepreneurship. Being my own boss has always been my goal as working for other people is definitely not my forte. Although I plan to get internships along the way to hopefully understand
