Overview
Right Management is a human resources and management consulting business that was founded in 1980 by “four experienced outplacement and career management consultants.” They are “the continent’s leading career transition and human resource consulting providing, doing business with more than 80% of the Fortune 500,” (Anthony, Kacmar, & Perrewe, p.33). Right Management helps companies today going through downsizing and restructuring efforts, and helps their employees in managing career transitions.
Question 1: What are the challenges faced by Right when the downsizing effort no longer is a popular human resource strategy?
When the downsizing effort is no longer a popular human resource strategy, Right will have to find a new strategy to operate on. The strategic approach to human resource management has six key elements according to the text: “1. Explicitly recognizes the impact of the outside environment. 2. Explicitly recognizes the impact of competition and the dynamics of the labor market. 3. Has a long-range focus (three to five years). 4. Focuses on the issue of choice and decision making. 5. Considers all personnel, not just hourly or operational employees. 6. Is integrated with overall corporate strategy and functional strategies,” (p.15). The challenges Right will face will come when they are trying to create a new HR strategy and focusing on these six key elements in doing so.
