Issues At Hand
Robin Hood has plenty of problems in relation to the group of men to which he is responsible for. Due to the growing number of men joining the camp, Robin Hood and the other lieutenants are having a difficult time watching over and enforcing rules upon the men that have continually poured in. Due to the increase in the group size, the camp has also experienced both a food and financial shortage in the forest. Robin Hood also has to worry about the Sherriff and the men at his disposal as they are growing increasingly stronger and will soon come after Robin Hood and Co.
Questions About Current Objectives
Robin Hood and the Merrymen obviously cannot use the same strategies that helped the group in its early days. Robbing the rich and giving to the poor can only make money for so long, as individuals are now avoiding the forest in lieu of longer trips so that the Merrymen may be avoided. The objectives of hoping to take down the Sheriff while making money within the forest are still fine objectives, however the group must come up with a different strategy to complete the objectives.
Strategy Possibilities
There are a few strategies that the Merrymen can look at if they are wanting to continue operating as a unit. While the robbing of the rich and giving to the poor has always done well for their business, it is apparent that the group must now ditch this plan and find something new if it plans on continuing operations. There are a few possibilities the group can choose from:
- Switching from confiscation of goods and instead moving to a fixed transit tax,
- Killing the Sheriff,
- Join the Conspiracy that would work in getting the release of King Richard back to power.
Killing The Sheriff
Robin Hood has always thought about trying to end all of the conflict and just going for the extreme action of killing the sheriff. However there is no indication that this would help the Merrymen at all in their quest. Killing the Sherriff may satisfy Robin Hoods own personal desires but it would not solve any of the Merrymen’s problems of food/financial concern.
Joining the Conspiracy
King Richard has been imprisoned in Austria, which has led to the infamous Prince John and Sherriff being able to take power. Many barons under Prince John have begun to dispute his claim to the throne and would like to see King Richard back in power. The barons have extended an offer to Robin to help collect the ransom that would help set King Richard free. While one may wonder why a vigilante would help the government, it must be noted that the barons have extended an offer of future amnesty to Robin if he helped them in their quest. This is a major pro to the plan, but it also doesn’t come without cons. What if the barons never followed through with their amnesty claim? What if the plan failed and Prince John found out and punished all who participated? The cons are troubling, but it just may be worth it.
