Executive Summary
Sloan Women in Management (SWIM) club has organized its 3rd Annual Conference titled "Dare to Fail: Taking Risks When it Matters Most." The annual conference is the organization’s largest flagship event and a platform for students to interact with the leading women in business. After 11 months of planning, the club co-presidents, Rachel, Lea & Tarini, and two conference directors, Janet & Merrill, are facing a difficult decision. The annual conference is scheduled to begin around the time a winter storm, fortified with up to 50 inches of snow, is predicted to hit the Boston area.
At 2:00pm the day before the conference is to begin, the leadership team needs to decide whether the show should go on, be modified, or be canceled altogether.
Considering various evaluation criteria and options, we suggest SWIM should cancel the conference altogether keeping in mind the discomfort that will be caused to the attendees and the consequence on the reputation of the organization in case of failure of the event.[b]
