Situation Analysis

This is a brief analysis of the StilSim Personnel Company's current business environment based on my first week employment, market research and interaction with various personnel within StilSim. I will include an overview of the personnel industry, a brief history of the company, and personnel and market forces that are affecting the growth and health of the business.

Industry Overview

In the U.S., there are about 20,000 staffing and recruiting companies, which altogether operate around 39,000 offices. Approximately 55% of companies and 74% of offices are in the temporary and contract staffing sector of the industry.  While StilSim is not focused on the temporary and contract staffing sector of the personnel industry, this shows 9,000 staffing and recruiting companies exist in recruiting and analysis of staffing and personnel.  Since 1992 when StilSim Personnel was founded, the staffing industry has realized profound change, in employment statistics, worker and labor environments and technology changes.

 Technology has enabled potential employees to find more jobs via job boards and through services such as Indeed.com, Monster.com and LinkedIn.com.  The largest workforce population is currently the Millennial population, which surpassed the Gen X population and is largely outpacing the Baby Boom population in the workforce. (Fry, 2018). This population of younger workers grew up using the internet and are a large part of the internet recruiting and staffing growth. The growth of specialized recruiting and staffing firms focused on one or two industries, along with the continued growth of internet recruiting and IT in the recruiting world is expected to continue.

Company History

Founded in 1992 by Bill Simmon and Rusty Stillman, StilSim Personnel focused on the recruiting and evaluation of personnel in the mostly labor industries. As labor industries reduced in the US during the 90's and 2000's, StilSim expanded in the technology and healthcare fields, along with temporary personnel. The company focuses on a high touch approach with their clients and focused on the specific markets of Capital City and Lakeside and added Mountain View as a business market when key personnel moved to that area. The company has grown to 24 full time staff members and StilSim has a very diverse workforce and caters to multiple industries. With the changes in the employment and staffing environment. StilSim needs to clarify its mission, goals and strategy to ensure continued growth.
