# | Strategic Analysis Tool |
1 | Restate in your own words a detailed description of the tool: |
a. | PESTLE is an extended version of PEST analysis, it is a combined concept of the 6 factors including: Political, Economic, Social, Technology, Legal and Environmental. |
b. | It is a tool that can track the environment of the organization from different angles. |
c. | It can also understand the external factors impact on the organization, and how to avoid or solve the impacts. |
2 | What situations call for this particular analysis? |
a | The analysis is used while organizations are in need of an overview of its positions, and structures regarding to their future and expansions etc. |
b | It is used to monitor the external marketing environment factor that could affect the organization business and situation due to the 6 factors. |
c | It is used to locate opportunities and threats of the organization so that they can react and solve the problems as soon as possible. |
3 | Discuss 2 specific ways the analysis results might be useful to an organization: |
a. | The result of PESTLE can help the organization understanding its weakness while putting all the information together. For example, the result of PESTLE can help Tim Hortons to advance into the technology world, attracting more customers from online market to the stores while online marketing and advertisements are beginning to become the main stream. |
b. | Social and Technology from PESTLE is especially useful to Apple Inc. while indicating the advantages at its world-leading technology and their fashion have already become a culture. But respectively, it also shows how Apple did poorly at Environmental factor while reports have been showing its production pollution is not acceptable. Based on these factors, Apple could be more affective at planning its directions. |
4 | Apply the Tool: Using 1 of the organizational options provided in class, complete the tool for that organization. Refer to the requirements noted for the assigned analysis. Complete your analysis in 1.5 pages. Point form notes are acceptable. Be sure to add your conclusions and recommendations, if required. |
Political: Major universities provide varieties of course and that is what Trent lacks of,
majors and courses availabilities were once a problem, although there are some
obvious improvements throughout the years, but yet, summer course choices are poorly
sustainable. | |
Economic:Number of international students has been continuously rising, and Canada has
an 84% increase in this enrolment. Therefore Trent is also expected to have a growth of
international students, while it is ranked as #1 in Ontario overall. It also states that 88% of
international students graduated from Trent are employed 6 months after graduation. This
statistic could help raising Trent’s reputation and enrolment rate among other universities.
Social: Trent has been everywhere to promote what they are doing and how this could
help their potential students, these places include over sea countries like China and
Japan. But such action has also proved that Trent is heavily relying on international
students tuition fees in keeping their business and enrolment rate.
Technology: Although Trent only has 50 years of history, but relatively it is the reason why
Trent is able to maintain it updated technology among the campus. Trent does not need
additional money to update its up-to-date technology while other universities requires that.
Legal: Apparently there are no legal issues at Trent, employment law, labour and other
law related issues have not been filed so far.
Environmental: Environment is the biggest advantage of Trent due to the massive land of
nature, which leads to Environmental studies being one of the most popular majors, and a
signature course at Trent. Additionally, as the campus is located at the far side away from
Downtown, parents are confident to let their children studying in an university with limited
entertainment. But oppositely, such far location can also be less attractive to students.
Conclusion: By concluding the 6 factors from PESTLE, there are two major problems at
Trent, which are the Political and Social factors, these could probably be the reasons of
Trent’s low enrollment rate, but yet improving recently due to the other 3 strong factors
including Economic, Technology and Environment. These 3 factors are the advantages of
Trent in order to rank among other top universities in Ontario. To solve the problems/risks,
I recommend Trent to diversify more courses, such action would attract more students to
enrol other than international students, and building more campuses near the big city. |
