Intro
Indian Steel Industry:
During FY 2017-17, Indian steel industry saw a surge in consumption as well as production where consumption grew by 7.9% to 90.7 MT and production grew by 3.1% to 105 MT. As consumption reaches par with production, there is the favourable outlook for this industry which has always been subdued by overproduction. The government of India has brought National steel policy (2017) which has taken several steps to protect the industry from unfair competition. It has carried anti-dumping duties and increased import taxes to prevent dumping of cheap steel in the industry.
