Is technology leading us into dangers? Does it need to be controlled? If so what needs to be controlled and how?

In today's era, it is hard to function without some working knowledge of the computer and the Internet. Cell phones, portable music devices, digital cameras and the list goes on have increasingly worked their way into our everyday lives. Everything we do rely on some form of technology. So is there reason to believe that technology will or is leading us into dangers? I do believe that at the rate at which these technological advances is going, it will eventually lead us into dangers. It is clear that technology is helpful seeing we can't do without it but it can also be dangerous. I believe that the more powerful it becomes, the more harmful it could also become. For example, in the article, Why the Future Doesn't Need Us," Bill Joy mentions that the destructive power in genetics, nanotechnology, and robotics should worry us because of self-replication. I also think we should worry, just the thought of it scares me. What if it escalate out of control, and we have no defense against it.

Affirmative action

I find the article to be very interesting. I understand that the policies of affirmative action helps to create a more diverse environment whether that be in the workplaces or in schools. Which is good in that it allows minorities that would otherwise be underrepresented in places like the workplace to be recognized and have a say in things. But like the article stated it also causes disadvantages in that it divides society rather than unites it. It creates a stigma that minorities and women obtain positions in the workplace based on gender, race or ethnicity rather than through achievement and qualifications.
