Introduction- The Background of Elon Musk and Tesla Motors
Tesla Motors is an automotive company mainly based in the United States. It was founded in 2003 by two engineers named Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning (How BIG is Tesla? (Bigger Than Mitsubishi Motors!), May 20,2015). It designs, produces and manufactures premium electric cars, and also designs products which have been produced with a vision to make more sustainable and long lasting technology. Tesla aims for global sustainable and green transport by the revamp and enhancement in electric cars making them more powerful luxurious and nature friendly at the same time as they make 100% electrically powered cars. After its advent in 2003, the company was soon funded and taken over by the founder of PayPal and Zip2, Elon Musk. Tesla Motors first came into sight after its grand success of the Tesla Roadster, an electrically powered car which could go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 secs and also proved to be an eco-friendly car as its co2 emissions were only 46.1 g/km as compared to conventional cars which emit an average of 250 g/km. (Tarpenning, 2006). It also received many awards such as ‘INDEX Design Award 2007’ etc. (Pao, 2012). After some years in 2008, Tesla received a massive loan from the U.S. Department of Energy that eventually led to the birth of the Tesla Model S. This new model was better in handling, created almost no vibrational disturbances and was extremely powerful as well. (INC., 2014). After the success of the Model S, Tesla soon became only the second automotive company to go public in 2010 since ford which went public in 1956. (How BIG is Tesla? (Bigger Than Mitsubishi Motors!), May 20,2015). Consecutively and progressively, with yet again another success it unveiled the greatly anticipated Model X in 2015. With sheer perseverance and the mission to create mass market and affordable electric cars Tesla strives to make the world a better place.
