The impact of globalization in tourism and hospitality industry

Introduction

With the development of globalization, people have already got used to this high-speed world. In recent years, The U.S. Hotel have been expanding their brands into the global market in several years, such as Hyatt Regency hotels which used about 40 years to develop its brand all over the world. The globalization has a deep meaning for hospitality industry and tourism due to they have a similar idea which represents a movement of population from one to another area, therefore they affect each other and keep a closed relationship. With the advantages of all media coverage -- travel documentaries, television shows, video series, newspapers and magazine coverage, tourism in a world that has become rapidly more global and integrated is an industry which has yielded the greatest success out of the exportation of culture. (Richards, G. & Hall, D. ,2003) This paper will focus on how the globalization influences tourism and hospitality industry. It not only affects one country but also a whole world. To developing countries, globalization brings more positive impacts to tourism on politics, economies, culture and technological area.

What is Globalization?

Globalization is not an unknown word in common life, in last ten years, the concept of globalization and its history spread the whole world rapidly. Globalization used to describe an old process from thousands of years ago to modern time. With the development of people’s life quality, countries affect countries then create globalization. Meanwhile convenient transport stimulated the exchange of goods and ideas. With the improvement of the desire in one’s life and the development of technology, there is more and more interaction and interdependence between country and country.

What is tourism?

According to Enea ConstanŃa, the tourism sector is probably the only service sector that provides concrete and quantified trading opportunities for all nations, regardless of their level of development. However, it is also a sector where there is clearly an uneven distribution of benefits, which is threatening the social, economic and environmental sustainability of tourism in some developing countries. For many developing countries tourism is one of fundamental pillars of their development process because it is one of the dominant activities in the economy, while for others, particularly by islands and some small economies, it is the only source of foreign currency and employment, and therefore constitutes the platform for their economic development.(2009) The development of tourism definitely displays that contemporary tourism is based on the evolution of globalization to become an international industry since they both play crucial role in current.
