The leadership style of my supervisor
According to the article “”Leadership That Gets Results.”, the author Goleman concludes six leadership styles that exist in the business professional world. Specifically, they are: coercive style, authoritative style, affiliative style, democratic style, pacesetting style, and coaching style. Goleman also insists that the most effective executives may choose to use a collection of different leadership styles with each in the right time frame to work as a good leader. I believe that if a good leader can make good use of his/her resources, he/she would definitely work out in the most efficient way.
It is reasonable that some managers don’t regard the working atmosphere could give impact on financial performance within the company. However, the organization climate would by influenced by managers’ leadership style. An efficient leadership style conveyed from a good manager would make good impact not only on subordinates but also on the overall performance of a whole team.
As for my own experiences, I would like to share my supervisor’s leadership style when I worked as an accounting intern at a non-profit organization in Minneapolis. The organization is relatively small since it only has less than thirty people in total. Thus, there are no more than three person within a department such as finance, marketing etc. When I worked as one of the interns in the finance department which is also mean financial management department, except the interns, there are only two official staff: one is my supervisor – senior finance manager and the other is an accountant staff.
Even though the organization is not a big-scale company, the finance department are not at leisure at all. The finance department always need 1-2 interns working each day. Thus, during my intern experiences, I learned a lot. My supervisor is a woman who has been working in this organization for more than eight years, so she is very familiar with what she will going to do every day, every week and every quarter. The financial statements are her routine work and she will assign some relatively easy-to-do projects to her interns.
