The Men’s Wearhouse
Diagnosis:
I believe the company’s single biggest problem at that time is that the promotion was almost totally from within. And the company only hired few people for management positions from outside and the inside management development was mostly accomplished by observing others in business. This problem made managers of Men’s Wearhouse lack of knowledge of advanced management methods. And from a long-term perspective, it would have a serious impact on the revenue and expansion in the next few years if the problem left unaddressed.
Analysis:
The reason why I think that is the problem is that the management positions are really important for a big public company, and it might affect the whole business strategy of the company. Most promotion came from within would really narrow the vision and the thought because those people felt comfortable being in current position and would not think of potential risk and opportunity that might have huge impact of the company. Sometimes, we need different ideas to analysis a problem and to improve.
Recommendations:
I recommend that the company should hire managers from outside and also giving promotions from inside. For every region, there should be a least one region manage from outside and one from inside. In that case, managers could talk over different scenarios and have their own thoughts to improve their decision making.
Outcomes:
I expect that the company would make better decisions and have bigger share of the market. My recommendation would affect every region of the whole company. Since the region management make better decisions, they would gain more revenue of sales and save costs of inefficient hiring.
