Look this graph: there are some sources of academic stress. We can see a great number of students are under kinds of stress, such as too many exams and meeting a deadline, which means academic stress is very common in the university life. But what are the negative influences on undergraduates’ emotional health? According to my research, I will discuss 3 points as following.
First, I’ll say the something about overstrain, which is one harmful emotion caused by academic stress. Please look at the chart, over half students felt nervous when their parents talk about their study. This might because they had been afraid to parents’ blame when they got low marks. In addition, overstrain is often accompanied by anxiety. [æŋˈzaɪəti] That is to say, academic stress gave undergraduates too much worry and became a great threat to their emotional health. As a result, they may suffer from insomnia ɪnˈsɒmniə and having no appetite ˈæpɪtaɪt
Well, the next negative effect of academic stress is learning weariness. This will reduce the learning efficiency, which means students must spend lots of time on finishing their homework or essay. In addition, as connection with lack of suitable sleep and diet due to under academic stress, they maybe tried and out of spirits. So, it is a possible case that students are unwilling to learn but they have to work hard, further the increasing pressure will generate unhealthy mood worse.
Ok. Finally, the last bad effect of academic stress is thinking negatively. A great number of undergraduates think bad things when they are under heavy academic stress. This will make them more sensitive and be angry easily. Thinking negatively will also cause the feeling of inferiority. So students maybe reduce communication, which is damaged to their personal relationship. And I believe the most serious result of negative thought is to kill themselves.
