The three ethical issues

This is a point of fact that the major target of business organization is to ensure that their activities have financial benefits to the organization. Thus, organizations undertake all the necessary measures to improve their financial position. However, there is a limit to organization’s activities in their pursuit of financial rewards. Organizations exploit the loopholes to their own benefit. Therefore, the organizations may be engaging in unethical activities but comply with the rules and regulation of the area of operation. Gumdrop Northern has various unethical practices. However, the company complies with various rules and regulations. Gumdrop Northern activities outface management, marketing and finance ethical issues.

Ethical Issues in Management

The main goal of management ethics is to treat all employees and customers justly and fairly. It is believed that by following a moral and ethical code, business will improve. When applied to everyday business, acting ethically means adhering to law, competing with others in an honest manner, and performing daily tasks without any element of deceit. Many companies around the globe update written codes of conduct as a result of past corporate scandals. It is not uncommon for a company to update this document on a yearly basis. (Wise Geek, 2003-2013) Gumdrop Northern treats it employees unfairly. The company lays off many employees for no reason at all. Removal of the company from the jurisdiction of WARN would lead to lay off of the rest of the employees without notice. Instead of paying off employees after it lays them off without notice, the company files for bankruptcy to ensure that nobody will get anything. In addition, the company relocates to Argentina and Colombia, where it continues to engage in immoral management practices. The company bribes officials in those countries to ensure there is minimal supervision of its activities. This makes Gumdrop continue its activities while violating environmental, labor, and other regulations of the countries. The company starts its operations on the wrong footing. There are some suggestions in order to avoid unethical management: Establish a market-leading ethics and compliance program, Implement sophisticated, integrated, and automated infrastructure and processes to manage ethics and compliance, Engage the organization with education and communication that addresses critical risk areas and promotes ethical awareness and decision-making and Inspire the organization to think differently about ethical leadership and company culture.

In a market economy, a business may be expected to act in what it believes to be its own best interest. The purpose of marketing is to create a competitive advantage. An organization achieves an advantage when it does a better job than its competitors
